Wildlife medicine saving lives

Domestic animals aren’t the only ones that need care. Wild animals, whether in protected settings or their natural environment, also experience health issues that require medical attention. Wildlife medicine addresses these animals’ needs.

The Toucan Rescue Ranch is a wildlife rescue center that runs a premier wildlife clinic in the heart of Costa Rica. The center cares for over 300 animals and performs surgeries, treatments, and rehabilitation for a wide range of rescued species to return them into the wild.

In 2013 a small veterinary clinic was built at headquarters in San Isidro, Heredia, Costa Rica. Generous donations allowed TRR to supply the clinic with equipment and a wide range of medical supplies. Since then, the clinic has been in constant use. Today, they are internationally recognized in wildlife medicine and work with orthopedic surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, and physical therapists who visit headquarters to perform these practices, as well as, work in collaboration with their premier clinic facilities.

AABLA supports Toucan Rescue Ranch with a heart monitor. This heart monitor will be a major improvement to the overall equipment in the center’s small, but mighty, clinic. The heart monitor will allow its veterinarian staff to safely watch animals vitals as they perform necessary surgeries such as amputations, orthopedic surgeries, x-rays, and so forth.
